It uses muscles all over the body simultaneously and teaches you precision as you learn new tricks and skills. It involves a lot of coordination between your eyes, legs, feet and arms – and the more you skate, the better (and stronger) you get.
Precision and coordination are skills that transfer well in everyday life – both in a physical and mental capacity.
It’s also a fantastic stress reliever and mindful exercise due to the concentration needed when practicing – there’s no room to think about anything else!
After the initial cost of the board and any protective clothing, it’s something you can do for free at your local skatepark whenever it suits you.
In addition, you could choose to pay for lessons at a local facility.
Many towns across Cumbria have a skate park inc Barrow, Penrith, Whitehaven, Workington and Carlisle.
There are two indoor Skate Parks one in Barrow and one in Carlisle.
