Triathlon
Triathlon is a multisport consisting of swimming, cycling and running, with distances both short and long to suit all abilities.
There’s a number of different formats such as duathlon (Run-Bike-Run) and aquathlon (Swim-Run) for those who don’t fancy all three disciplines.
Why is it good for me?
Think of triathlon as the ultimate in cross training! By swimming, cycling and running, many of your muscle groups will be tested in a variety of combinations. You will be surprised at how quickly you can improve your level of fitness!
As a multi-discipline sport it can also help to prevent injuries.
It is fun, sociable and can give a great personal satisfaction for first time finishers.
How much does it cost?
GO TRI events cost anything between £5.00 and £15.00, depending on the type of multisport event you choose.
As you begin to progress in the sport and look to complete your first sprint triathlon, then this is likely to cost between £25.00 and £50.00.
What equipment do I need?
Basic triathlon equipment includes:
Swimming: 1 or 2 piece costume for a pool based swim and a wetsuit if your swim is in open water. Don’t forget your towel and goggles!
Cycling: Any kind of bike: road, mountain or hybrid. Even a shopping bike is fine! All bikes should be in a roadworthy condition with brakes on both wheels. A cycling helmet is essential; you won’t be able to race without one. You will need a t-shirt and shorts to ride in.
Run: All you need is a pair of trainers.
