It is likely that your programme will contain a combination of the following:
- Resistance exercises – using your body weight and/or weights to increase strength.
- Cardio exercises – walking, running, cycling or aerobic type move such as step ups and jumps to improve stamina.
- Flexibility and mobility exercises – stretches and low impact moves to increase the range of movement around your joints, improve posture and reduce strain and injury.
- Functional exercises – completing exercises that mirror everyday tasks to allow you to improve everyday health and wellbeing and reduce the risk of strain and injury.
There are many options in terms of the overall duration of personal training programmes as well as the duration and frequency of your sessions. Again this is dependent on you and your goal, but your personal trainer will be able to guide you in the right direction.
Personal training is usually done on a one-to-one basis, however you may see personal trainers offering sessions for small groups too. Why not buddy up with a friend and train together for added motivation

How much does it cost?
Personal training sessions tend to start from £15 for 30 minutes and can reach up to £200 per hour depending on the expertise, experience and location of your trainer. Many personal trainers also practise in nutrition, rehabilitation, sports massage as well as other specialised areas. Training fees of these trainers tend to be in the higher range due to the level of knowledge and experience required.
Most trainers do also offer reduced rates when booking sessions in bulk, as well as loyalty schemes such as your 10th session free.
What equipment do I need?
Whilst the majority of personal training sessions will require the use of equipment, such as free weights, kettlebells and resistance bands, your trainer should provide all of these. Just wear some supportive trainers and comfortable clothing you can exercise in and you’re good to go!
