Weight Lifting

Olympic Weight Lifting is one of the oldest competitive sports.  The sport is a combination of dynamic gymnastic and plyometric movements involving a bar being lifted overhead.

Why is it good for me?

Benefits of weightlifting are:

  • Improved flexibility, which reduces the risk of injury
  • Increased bone density, which reduced the risk of developing osteoporosis
  •  Improved homeostasis at the cellular/hormonal level
  • Increased energy levels
  • Increased strength

If you’re worried about weightlifting making you ‘bulky’, this is just a myth! Weightlifting can help you build and define your muscles.

How much does it cost?

Club and coaches will usually charge up to £5 an hour although taster sessions are usually free.

What equipment do I need?

To get started, all you need are some comfortable clothes and trainers. Weights, lifting gloves and chalk will be provided by your coach.
