Weight Lifting
Olympic Weight Lifting is one of the oldest competitive sports. The sport is a combination of dynamic gymnastic and plyometric movements involving a bar being lifted overhead.
Why is it good for me?
Benefits of weightlifting are:
- Improved flexibility, which reduces the risk of injury
- Increased bone density, which reduced the risk of developing osteoporosis
- Improved homeostasis at the cellular/hormonal level
- Increased energy levels
- Increased strength
If you’re worried about weightlifting making you ‘bulky’, this is just a myth! Weightlifting can help you build and define your muscles.
How much does it cost?
Club and coaches will usually charge up to £5 an hour although taster sessions are usually free.
What equipment do I need?
To get started, all you need are some comfortable clothes and trainers. Weights, lifting gloves and chalk will be provided by your coach.
