Hockey is a great team sport which is easy to pick up and combines tactics and team work with a great aerobic workout!
Hockey is a team sport, so it’s a great place to meet new people and make friends. Not only will you be working your heart and lungs as you’re running around the pitch, you’ll be working on your mental agility and coordination.
Costs depend on the club, some taster sessions are free and sessions start from around £2.
If you play games you are likely to pay per match and this amount varies from club to club.
To get started, you’ll need comfy t-shirt and shorts and trainers with a good grip. Clubs will provide the rest of the equipment you need like sticks and balls.
You may want to invest in a mouth guard, shin pads, gloves and a your own stick. If you fancy becoming a goalkeeper, you’ll need a mask, body padding and leg pads. Talk to your club or coach about what equipment they provide.
England Hockey have introductory sessions via Back to Hockey. Back to Hockey sessions are fun, social and informal and aimed at people who either have not played for a number of years or are looking to play for the first time. You can find a club local to you that offers Back to Hockey here.
