Athletics

The sport of athletics has a proud heritage and it continues to be one of the country's favourite sports.

It covers 'track & field' - which is everything from running to jumping and throwing. There's an athletics discipline for everyone. Cumbria is covered by the NW region of England Athletics. They work to encourage more people to take part and can provide useful information on where and how to take part.

Why is it good for me?

Athletics is a multi discipline sport, it brings people together, forging lifelong friendships and companionships and in providing a place of belonging and learning for many thousands of participants. Watch the Athletes at Rio 2016 describe why athletics is the best sport.

How much does it cost?

This depends on what activities you would like to do, running is of course free, but if you join a club, there will be fees to pay. Athletics clubs are fee paying and can include a fee for registering with England Athletics as an athlete.

What equipment do I need?

As above this depends on what activities you would like to do, most clubs have equipment and you would just be required to provide personal equipment like clothes and training shoes.
