Orienteering

Orienteering is an adventurous outdoor sport, providing a workout for the body and the mind.

With the aim to find points marked on a map and choose the best route to complete the course in the fastest time, it can take place anywhere! It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace.

Orienteering can take place anywhere from remote forest and countryside to urban parks and school playgrounds.  It's a great sport for runners, joggers and walkers who want to improve their navigation skills or for anyone who loves the outdoors. Orienteering - The adventure sport for all.

Why is it good for me?

Orienteering is a great cardiovascular workout which will help to improve your stamina, navigation and teamwork skills.

How much does it cost?

Costs vary. A local event might cost from £1 – £5.

What equipment do it need?

Comfortable clothes, layers and waterproofs if it’s cold or raining, and trainers you can run in. Even if you don’t love running, you’ll soon pick up the pace to stop the other team from winning!

Getting started

If you want to give Orienteering a go you can do so at a permanant course, an activity or an event. British Orienteering (the NGB) have further details here.
