We’ve published our Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan
September 19, 2024
After a robust five stage process over the past eighteen months, we are pleased to announce the publication of our Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan.
This plan sets out our commitment to ensure we take bold and intentional steps towards becoming a more diverse and inclusive organisation and in turn, support the physical activity sector in Cumbria, so that everyone can enjoy an active lifestyle.
We have three ambitions within the plan with each having nine actions that we mark progress against, those ambitions are:
- Our people are truly reflective of the population of Cumbria
- Our people talk confidently about, and are committed to, equality, diversity, and inclusion
- Our culture, practices, and ways of working are inclusive
Sport England appointed consultants, AKD Solutions, supported us through the creation of the plan and their summary stated:
“Active Cumbria’s EDI strategy shows the ongoing journey they are on as an organisation and the commitment to EDI across their systems. They have reimagined their structures and skill set to delve into EDI for the benefit of the communities of Cumbria with achievable targets and actions. This ongoing process will need additional support and guidance. The workforce and conversations held, indicate EDI is an ongoing step change for Active Cumbria.”
Our vision for this plan is that it is a living and breathing document where, through the internal EDI group, we will continually review its’ content and associated actions that correspond with the ongoing transformation we as an organisation go through. To highlight the progress we make, an annual Progress Summary report will be published that also sets out the priorities for the next twelve months.

The publication of the plan coincides with National Inclusion Week – a national campaign to raise awareness of inclusion in the workplace. This year, the theme ‘Impact Matters’ seeks to reignite and energise the positive impact of inclusion and showcase that wherever you are at with your inclusion journey, the impact of your work and actions matter.
