'Love To Move' With R&R Day Services
June 26, 2026
R&R Day Services in Whitehaven is enhancing its support for adults by expanding opportunities for physical activity at its centre. Keeping attendees - known as VIPs - active is a key priority, helping them maintain independence and wellbeing for longer.
With support from the Live Longer Better in Cumbria Reconditioning Fund, the service has upskilled staff to deliver structured movement sessions in-house. The project has focused on two main areas.
Firstly, team member Melinda completed The British Gymnastics Foundation ’Love to Move' training. This seated exercise programme, set to music, is designed to be inclusive and accessible for people of all abilities, ensuring everyone can take part and benefit from regular movement.
Secondly, responding to a rise in referrals involving early onset dementia, R&R introduced walking football to its activities. Following informal coaching and investment in equipment including footballs and pop-up goals, sessions are now up and running in the centre’s hall.
These developments mean R&R staff can now offer a wider range of engaging, tailored activities that support both physical and cognitive health. A video filmed earlier this year showcases the sessions in action, highlighting the positive impact on attendees and the strong sense of community within the centre.
Through initiatives like this, R&R Day Services continues to play an important role in helping people stay active, connected and independent.
