Join Team GB for the Nations Biggest Sports Day

I Am Team GB culminates in The Nation’s Biggest Sports Day this weekend on Saturday 24 August 2019 with activities taking you into the bank holiday. The aim of the event is to inspire people to take part in sport and physical activity for at least one day, in particular those who aren’t usually active but would like to try something new and change their lifestyle. The hope is that this will inspire them to incorporate sport into their everyday lives.

The event will connect people with community-led opportunities for a range of experience and abilities. Activities on offer are all free. Things happening in Cumbria include

I Am Team GB was originally launched in 2016 to celebrate the success of Britain’s Olympians returning from the Rio Games. The award-winning campaign harnessed the power of the Olympic sporting network and almost one million people across the UK took part. Ullswater Yacht club hosted a huge regional event and ITV was turned off for the day. 

Harraby Sports Campus in Carlisle is one of the many places taking part in I am Team GB. From 10am-2pm there will be a range of FREE sports activities for everyone to enjoy at Harraby Campus to celebrate The Nations Biggest Sports Day. This event has been organised in partnership with Cumbria County Council, Carlisle City Council, GLL, British Cycling, Active Cumbria, Harraby Community Centre and Harraby Together We Can. Activities include:

  • Launch of brand new 1k outdoor fitness trail which is adjacent to Harraby Community Centre. The Harraby Fitness Trail is a multi-stage outdoor gym aimed at those 14 and over. The trail is spread out over a 1km course.
  • 11am -2pm Staff present from GLL to show users how to use the fitness trail equipment and put together a simple training plan. They may even have a few freebies to hand out :)
  • 12noon – 2pm Staff present from Active Cumbria who will be catering for the under 14s -they will be delivering a range of Activate Sessions at the MUGA at Harraby Sports Campus.
  • Walk leaders will be delivery 3 led walks at 11am, 12pm and 1pm. These will be for designated target groups. 11am - Buggy Walk, 12pm - Doggy walk, 1pm - Shuffle.
  • 12noon – 3pm Harraby Sports centre 3G football pitches will be open and free for all ages to use
  • 12noon – 3pm Carlisle Cycle track skills sessions.  Bikes/Helmets available to use or bring your own.
