Building a Workforce for Barrow’s Travel Actively Ambitions

March 1, 2024

As part of an ongoing process to build a workforce of volunteers and paid opportunities, the Travel Actively Barrow team have facilitated more training courses in recent months, including a two day outdoor First Aid course, a one day basic one day bike maintenance course and walk leader training.

So far, since the start of the pilot project, we have now trained up in Barrow: fourteen cycle leaders; nine walk leaders; six advanced bike maintenance volunteers and sixteen basic one day bike maintenance volunteers and six outdoor first aid trained volunteers. In May 2024, we have an additional course to train up a further eight Group Cycle leaders, with more maintenance and walk leader training to be arranged.

This comprehensive programme of building a workforce for Barrow will allow us to facilitate regular walks, cycle confidence sessions and led rides and workshops to carry out basic repairs on bikes. Having our volunteers also confident in First Aid is vitally important, and reinforces our commitment to deliver enjoyable, informative and safe sessions for members of the public.
