Dignity in Dementia

Dignity in Dementia

Funding Received: £2,700 (Phase 1: 1 May 20 - 31 October 20)

Project Outline: Prior to the emergence of the Covid 19 pandemic Dignity in Dementia had begun to run weekly dementia friendly walks in the countryside around Kendal, Staveley, Ings and Milnthorpe.

Funding secured through the Tackling Inequalities Fund enabled Dignity in Dementia to develop their offer and establish one-to-one socially distanced walks for people with dementia in the South Lakes. The walks took place direct from the individuals doorstep supported by Dignity in Dementia staff.

Lockdown had significantly disrupted the routines for many of those living with Dementia which in turn had had a significant on the family carers. The weekly socially distanced walks provided a weekly hour's respite for the carers whilst supporting the individual with Dementia to venture out into the fresh air, increase their activity and socialise at the same time.
