Youthability Youth Services
Project Title: Fitability
Funding Received: £2901 (Phase 4: 1 April 2022 - 31 March 2023)
Project Outline: Youthability Youth Services aims to provide a variety of services for young people with disabilities or who are socially isolated. Our aim is to work with these individuals over a long period of time to assist their social and emotional development on their journey to adulthood.
As part of a weekly delivery programme, we would like to add a new project to our service, the project will be called Fitability. Our aim will be to encourage:
- - Young people to try something new
- - Young people to take part in physical, fun, and meaningful activities.
- - The development of new skills
- - Teamwork and self confidence
- - Physical/mental health and emotional resilience
The Fitability project will run over an 8-month period from August 2022 -March 2023, sessions will be delivered in our generic youth work session and also specialist sessions provided throughout the year. We aim to work closely with local providers and provide the young people with a wide variety of activities.
The project will include:
- Fitability circuit sessions, run by a former member of the service (who has Asperger’s) he is newly qualified to be able to deliver these types of sessions.
- Fitability specialist sessions, x9 sessions, working with local providers in the area, we will hire in special taster sessions such as Clubercise, Karate, walking, cycling, we will work with the young people to decide and research what activities they would like to trial. We aim to offer at least one specialist session a month.
- Fitability walk and talk. Our youth workers will offer monthly walk and talk sessions, for our members who need support around mental health.
- Finally, 19 young people will have the opportunity to take part in an Asdan accredited sports and fitness course. Once the young people have completed the course they will help facilitate and deliver the programme beyond the funded period.
