Workington Cricket Club
Project Title: Workington Women’s Cricket - Accessible for women of all ages and abilities.
Funding Received: (Phase 4 1 April 22 - 31 March 23): £1745
Project Outline:
On the back of an extremely successful taster event, the club was keen to widen their local reach within the community and are looking to engage local Women in Cricket! The event emphasised the local appetite and the role that the club must play locally in engaging people in physical activity and sport.
This project will support the delivery of sessions over the winter months to allow the women involved to get in a regular routine of physical activity, develop basic skills involved in cricket and most of all have fun whilst engaging! The Cricket Club is based in Allerdale 008A and serves the communities of Allerdale 008C which is one of the most deprived areas locally serving lower-socio economic groups.
The whole purpose of this team is participation, engaging those who would not usually engage, offering a sense of belonging and regular social interaction with others. Following the impact that Covid has had on the local community, opportunities like this are more important than ever to encourage engagement in physical activity and bring people and the community together.
The Club want to engage and attract women and girls of a wide range of ages and backgrounds, to try a new sport and benefit from physical activity. We want this to be a safe and inclusive environment for women and girls, for them to feel supported by other women in their community and making connections.
