Allerdale Disability Association

Most of the feedback gained was based around seated exercise with requests for pedal exercisers. A good first step to the re-introduction to exercise would be utilising equipment that works gently to improve circulation and mobility whilst reducing joint discomfort. This will then be followed by further steps which will help build strength and fitness. By doing this as a gradual process, members will maintain a regular regime and strive to do more.

Members also highlighted that table tennis would be a great way to be active whilst accessing the service and this would suit and support both ambulatory people and wheelchair users alike to engage in physical activity. It would also be able to be utilised in the space hired within the centre to which we are based.

Outcomes:

  • Increased levels of well-being for attendees.
  • Increased access to physical activity opportunities suitable to need.
  • Address pre-existing inequalities exacerbated by Covid-19 and improve health outcomes for these individuals by supporting them to become physically active in a safe environment.
