Project Unbeatable CIC

Project Unbeatable CIC

Project Title: Project Unbeatable

Funding Received: £4908 (Phase 4: 1 April 22 - 31 March 23)

Project Outline:

Following consultation with Social Prescribers and the Discovery College in Workington there was a need locally for a programme to support children and young people with their mental and physical health. As services they have seen increasing numbers of children and young people being referred in for support with anxiety and poor mental health, many of which have stopped attending school.

This upturn in referrals has a direct link to Covid, with many of the CYP having a lack of confidence due to doing very little over the lockdown periods and re-integration within the school setting has not been positive causing several further issues. The increased referrals all have a common thread of social isolation, anxiety, and obesity which this project will look to address and whilst waiting lists for mental health services and CAMHS are currently upwards of 6 months this will ensure that the CYP are getting a positive intervention. This highlighted gap in provision has prompted this offer to be created to ensure CYP do not go extended periods of time without accessing services.

Project Unbeatable has been created to empower, inspire and motivate the next generation to have an unbeatable mindset. Over a 12-week programme which is tailored to offer small group support to those referred in, each session will be adapted to meet the needs of the groups and cater for the individual within it. The programme will tackle social isolation and low-level mental health, using physical activity as a positive intervention.

The programme will take the format of 2 hour sessions, an hour of physical activity and an hour working on Project Unbeatable which will be intertwined to break up the sessions and get the group moving. Utilising the facilities at Empire Gym, the physical activity offer will be a varied across the programme, incorporating gym work, cross fit, pad work, boxing skills and walking. Most of the clients being referred do not engage in any physical activity at all, so it will be an introductory process over the programme alongside the project unbeatable work to ensure that the CYP are making a positive relationship with physical activity and enjoy engaging and learning new skills.
