38 Sport Makers from across Cumbria were lucky enough to win a pair or tickets to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games through ticketshare, here a couple have told us about their experiences.
Peter Haley who came to the Maryport Workshop last November told us "I had a great visit to the track cycling with my dad thanks to the tickets I won through Sport Makers. Getting across London and about the Olympic Park was made easy thanks to the help of staff in the stations and Games Makers who provided shuttle buses, wheelchairs and a mobility scooter for my dad who needs sticks to walk with.
We even had our tickets upgraded to wheelchair accessible ones by a Games Maker so that my dad wouldn't have to climb steps. The atmosphere in the Velodrome was amazing and the cycling was truly inspiring and humbling as we watched four world records and at least three Paralympic records being broken. We saw Iwan Thomas inside the Velodrome and met legendary Tour de France commentator Phil Liggett outside. We enjoyed the rest of the day looking round the Olympic Park and met up with some friends who had been to see the athletics."
Jacqui Davies and her grandson Arran - both Sport Makers had a great time, "Arran & Robbie were at the Royal Artillery Barracks on 1st August, and watched Peter Wilson in action the day before he won his Gold Medal on 2nd August, which was so exciting.
We were in the Stadium on 7th and the boys were there on 9th, and we were all blown away by the atmosphere which was electric - maybe, Usain Bolt had something to do with it! Everyone was obviously there to enjoy themselves, with no sign of any trouble.
A big THANK YOU to all the people who helped to make it such a success, especially the Military, the hundreds of volunteers who were so friendly and helpful, and above all the the athletes for their tremendous achievement - 29 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze, what an amazing result. What a wonderful Olympics and well done Team GB! "
