The county’s talent-spotting programme is aimed at helping boys and girls with talent and enthusiasm to develop their golfing skills to enable them to progress within the game and reach their full potential.
The County Academy programme is now in its fourth year and features high quality coaching from PGA qualified professionals.
Last year 76 juniors took part in the project, which is run under the umbrella of the Cumbria County Golf Partnership.
Coaching centres will be based at Barrow Golf Club (Mike Newton), Carus Green GC (Andrew Pickering/Dave Turner), Whitehaven GC (Mark Mattinson), Penrith GC (Andrew Sowerby), Appleby GC (Gaele Tapper),Carlisle Driving Range(Stuart Rafferty) and Carlisle GC (Graeme Lisle).
The 2013 plan features the introduction, for the first time, of two separate programmes for different age groups.
The County Academy Programme will cater for young players between the ages of 14-18, who will receive 21 hours of coaching in seven three-hour sessions.
The coaching sessions will include an insight into exercise, psychology and diet on top of the technicalities of golf, course management, the rules and etiquette. The cost per year to players will be £80.
The Cumbria Golf Academy is aimed at those in the 10 to 13 age bracket and includes 12 hours of coaching in six two-hour sessions.
The coaching sessions will include game improvement, course management, the rules and etiquette and will cost £60 per player.
Players will get the chance to test out their new-found skills in a series of inter-group matches culminating in an end of year contest against the Durham and Northumberland Academies.
