Join Sky Ride Local in the Lake District as we've been chosen as country’s first rural location for this innovative national cycling initiative. British Cycling trained Ride Leaders will guide small groups of cyclists around some of the Lake District’s most scenic spots – all for free - with the launch of a community cycling initiative, ‘Sky Ride Local’. Sky Ride Local bike rides are perfect for visitors and residents of all ages, from beginners to experienced cyclists, and are a great way of getting out and about in the beautiful Lake District landscape. Our aim is to encourage people to leave their cars behind and experience a greener, healthier way of exploring the South and Central Lakes.
Over the next two years,, the Go Lakes Travel programme in partnership with British Cycling and Sky will deliver a programme led bike rides from May through to October. Previously Sky Ride focused on large towns and cities like Manchester and Newcastle, so this is the very first time it has come to a National Park.
Now the search is on for local cyclists from across South Cumbria to train up as British Cycling Ride Leaders to lead the rides. The roles are open to anyone who loves cycling and wants to share their enthusiasm with visitors and residents alike.
