Hundreds of paddlers are expected to descend on Hexham later this month for one of Europe’s largest recreational canoe events – The Tyne Tour. The event, which last year attracted around one thousand white water enthusiasts, will feature a range of activities for canoeists of all ages and all abilities.
This year’s Tyne Tour, taking place November 3rd-4th, will be even bigger and better after event organisers teamed up with Go Canoeing, Canoe England’s Olympic legacy project. The initiative aims to open up the sport to new participants and encourage those with some canoeing experience to take to the water more regularly and become more active in the sport.
As well as the established white water activity of the Tyne Tour, this year’s event will also feature Go Canoeing Swimming Pool Starter Sessions, Try a Boat Sessions, the chance to try an on-land kayak simulator and even Starter Tours for those with little canoeing experience, but the confidence to set out on an adventure.
Canoe England Paddlesport Development Officer Rachel Hudspith said: “The Tyne Tour is going to be a fantastic event and will provide a range of captivating and inspiring opportunities to people of all paddling experience.
“The Go Canoeing initiative is aimed at boosting the number of people who participate regularly in our wonderful sport and through events like the Tyne Tour we are aiming to demonstrate just how fun, social and accessible canoeing can be.”
“So whether you’re an absolute beginner or a white water veteran, there will be something for everyone and we’re urging anyone with an interest in the sport to come along and make this year’s Tyne Tour the biggest and best event yet.”
