Last season was an incredible one for one official from Cumberland and this summer is it going to get more exciting!
Scott Henry, who recently gained promotion to Level 4 has been selected to be an official at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Scott will travel down to London on 29 August to take part in the Games.
Scott will be one of 12 officials from across the world to oversee fixtures between Russia, Ukraine, Netherlands, Iran, USA, Brazil, Argentina and Great Britain. Fixtures will take place at the Riverbank Arena located in the Olympic Park.
This follows Scott’s acceptance onto The FA Cerebral Palsy Match Officials Training programme due to his experience in working with children and adults with disabilities and complex needs.
Throughout last season Scott officiated in The FA Cerebral Palsy National League and following these fixtures was selected to officiate at the BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester in May. Scott commented “I was immensely proud and honoured to be a part of the event. To get a taste of an elite international competition was fantastic”. Four teams were involved, Great Britain, Brazil, USA and Republic of Ireland. Scott got plenty of action during the competition and was in the middle for the match between Brazil and the Republic of Ireland, assistant referee for two games as well as officiating as 4th official in the Regional Arena in Manchester’s Sport City complex.
Scott has also been an integral part in supporting the delivery of the Carlisle United Ability Counts League, a monthly competition where his role included refereeing and providing support to other appointed referees working alongside Paul Jennings.
Cumberland FA would like to wish Scott the best of luck when he gets involved in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
