Back the Bid

20th April 2011

Copeland Borough Council and Allerdale Borough Council both announced their intention to bid for aspects of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup today.  Although separate bids will be submitted to the RFL, both consortiums are working together to ensure West Cumbria has the strongest possible chance of enticing a major international sporting event.

Local authorities can bid to stage matches and host teams for the duration of the tournament.  Gary Stewart, Sports Development Officer for CBC said, "It's a great opportunity for West Cumbria to showcase itself.  We have a real appetite, passion and love for Rugby League here in Cumbria.  Mix that in with glorious landscapes, award-winning coastlines, fantastic opportunities for tourists, great restaurants, museums and iconic land marks we feel Cumbria has a lot to offer the Rugby League World."

The bidding process is expected to be tough with a lot of authorities bidding to host the World Cup.  With that in mind, showing community strength and support is imperative for a successful bid.  To back the bid please visit www.backthebidwestcumbria.org.uk or 'like' our 'Back the Bid West Cumbria Facebook page'.
