Jemma Bell

Cumbria Young Sports Leader 2009

"As a result of my volunteering, I was selected for the Step into Sport Camp 2009 at Loughborough University at Easter and more recently the Young Leaders Camp 2009 at Rugby School. Whilst at Rugby School, I was privileged to be awarded the Athletics Team Player Award for good role modelling and leadership.

I think the most important thing I gained from the Loughborough camp was communication skills. Also the belief that it is not too late to do something great and make an impact, not just in sport but in any kind of leadership.

I also realised how many people as young role models we have an impact on. In all, I think the camp has given me a whole new perception on coaches and leaders which has given me motivation do well not just for myself but for the community.

These camps were fantastic, I feel I have developed my skills to improve my standard of volunteering through tasks focussing on communication , confidence and determination.

I have now transferred my newly learned skills into my volunteering and taking a more proactive and determined approach. I hope to keep on improving.

I would like to say a really big thank-you to all the people who put me forward for the two camps and giving me the opportunity of a life-time."
