Go Tri Beginners Festival

Triathlon is an individual festival that involves a continuous swim, cycle and run. The aim of the challenge is to complete the Triathlon in the quickest overall time.

Date: Wednesday 23rd June 2021, 12.00pm – 3.30pm

Venue: Keswick Leisure Centre, Station Road, Keswick, CA12 4NE

Cancellation Policy: In the event that the festival has to be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions the event organisers will inform school teams no later than lunch time the day prior to the festival. No alternative date will be arranged.

Year Group: Year 7 to Year 8 (combined) - 11 – 13 year olds

Gender: 2 girls and 2 boys per team

Team / Squad size:

  • Teams must consist of 4 players
  • Players from more than one school in a district may form a team

Clothing / equipment requirements: The festival will be a mixture of swimming, cycling and running, players will be expected to wear their own swimwear (no bikinis), and PE Uniform, and suitable trainers/footwear

Refreshments: Lunch and refreshments will NOT be provided during the festival. Please ensure your pupils bring some lunch and liquid refreshments with them.

Transport arrangements: Teams who have entered to compete at this festival will be asked to make their own transport arrangements to and from the venue. The Cumbria LOC agree to pay schools either the cost of the transport or mileage at a rate of 45 pence per mile to the county event. For more information regarding transport costs, please contact michelle.young@cumbria.gov.uk  Parking at the venue is free for teams, volunteers and staff but you must obtain a ticket from the venue reception and clearly display it in your vehicle(s) upon arrival.

Welfare: All competing teams will receive a copy of the event welfare plan prior to the event. The plan will outline clear lines of communication for any welfare issues and provide clarification of roles, responsibilities and procedures that should be followed should an incident or accident occur.

Event Format: Swim 60m (2 laps), Cycle 2k (2 laps Fitz Park), Run 1k (1 lap – Grass area Fitz Park). This is NOT a district event.

Rules: 

Swim

  • The swim element consists of each competitor completing a 60m swim
  • It is expected that each swimmer can complete an 60m swim
  • If any swimmer fails to complete the swim element they will incur a time penalty
  • The time penalty will be 180 second per competitor who fails to complete the swim. This will be added onto the finished time
  • If a competitor fails to complete the swim, the next swimmer can only start once the swimmer is safely out of the water
  • Each team will be given a designated lane and should swim clockwise
  • All swimmers must start inside the pool, tumble turns are allowed
  • Each swimmer must be touching the lane rope and hand slap their team mate before the next swimmer can start their leg
  • Upon completion of the swim each competitor can move to transition to change into their biking/ running kit
  • Competitor 1 will start with the band
  • Competitor 4 must exit the pool and walk via the coned route to transition
  • Competitor 1 will hand over the band to competitor 2 n the handover area in the pool, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4.
  • The band must be fully on the wrist of the competitor before they can start swimming.
  • Any running around the pool and transition will result in disqualification

Bike

  • Each competitor completes the 2km bike leg, Fitz Park footpath.
  • The time penalty will be 180 second per competitor who fails to complete the bike leg, this will be added onto the finished time.
  • Once competitor 4 has completed the bike leg, the team will move to the run transition holding zone. Competitor 1 will go straight to the run lap.

Run

  • The run consists of each competitor completing a 1km (1 lap) run
  • Each competitor will run around Fitz Park grass area– 1 lap.
  • Competitor 1 and 2, and 3, will stick to the left and turn again at just before the finish line to the handover the band to the next runner
  • Competitor 4 will stay right and cross the finish line

Scoring: The Winning team are decided on who completes the race in the fastest time

Whats New? This event will retain its traditional format.
