Sport England – Active Lives Children and Young People Survey

October 14, 2022
Active Lives CYP Survey- understanding pupils' levels of participation and attitudes to sport and physical activity to help them move more.
The Active Lives CYP Survey is a study that is being run by Sport England and was developed with the Department for Education, the Department for Health and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Schools are randomly selected by Sport England each term to be involved. The Survey helps us understand pupils’ levels of participation and attributes to sport and physical activity to help them move more.
As a thank you for schools help in initiating responses from their pupils, teachers, and someone’s parents, there is an equipment incentive available worth at least £100, but most importantly there is the opportunity to receive a school level report based on the responses gained from each school - this is invaluable information to help shape physical activity within your school. Active Cumbria are available to support with developing approaches to physical activity based on your individual data.
Here we have Mr Stockdale (PE Lead and Year 6 Teacher) from Maryport C of E Primary School with two pupils showing their appreciation for their equipment incentive. Mr Stockdale said:
“We found the process of filling in the CYP Active Lives Survey straight forward and rewarding. Selected schools receive an email from Active Cumbria, who inform you which year groups have been selected in your school, they give you an easy-to-follow guide on how to complete the survey correctly and they send you the URL links to access the survey directly.”
“Active Cumbria make it clear that they are aware of how busy teachers are and offer lots of help and guidance to ensure teachers they have the support they need. I found the best thing to do is to plan in my calendar at a quieter time in the term for when my school could complete the survey.”
“Even though the Active Lives CYP Survey is technically optional, from a teaching and PE Lead perspective, I believe it is 100% worth doing. This time round, we were selected for Term 3, we managed to submit more than 30 responses. Therefore, we were eligible for the equipment incentive. We decided to order the orienteering kit from the Sport England catalogue and the pupils are really looking forward to using this. On top of this, we received our school report from Ipsos MORI which was insightful”.
