Ullswater Yacht Club will welcome two Olympic medal winners just back from Rio to its I Am Team GB Day on Saturday, August 27.
The club is taking part in ‘the nation’s biggest ever sports day’ from 10am-4pm and is hosting the Flagship Hero ITV/Border regional event which will include a visit from gold medal winning team sprint cyclist Philip Hindes (he won an Olympic gold in 2012 as well) and taekwondo bronze medal winner Bianca Walkden. They will be joined at the Olympic celebration by two members of the British Sailing Team tipped for Olympic success in Tokyo in 2020, 470 sailor Anna Carpenter and Laser sailor Jack Wetherell.
The I Am Team GB Day is promoted by ITV and the National Lottery as a celebration of the Olympics and to encourage everyone in the country to take part in a sporting activity. Sports clubs all over the country will be running free taster activities and filming will take place at 14 special ‘Hero’ events, including Ullswater Yacht Club.
The club’s Ullswater Sailing School is running free sailing taster sessions with special sessions for disabled visitors and there’s the opportunity to watch the club sailors in action on the lake. Other free events on offer at Ullswater Yacht Club are: on the water - paddleboarding taster sessions, a canoe polo demo and canoeing taster sessions, Stunt S9 foiling catamaran tasters and off the water - touch rugby taster games and challenge sessions and canoe simulator machines.
