Cumbria Primary Multi Skill Festival
The Multi Skills Festival has been in introduced into the Cumbria School Games calendar for 2021. The event is designed to be non-competitive, aimed at introducing children who are identified as less active or less engaged with sport and physical activity to participation in a safe and friendly way. Participants will have the opportunity to rotate around a series of activities during the course of the festival.
School Games Values: Self Belief, Teamwork, Honesty, Passion, Determination, Respect
Date: Wednesday 7th July 2021, 10.00am – 3.30pm
Venue: The Sheepmount (Main Venue), Mayors Drive, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA3 8XL
Cancellation Policy: In the event that the competition has to be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions the event organisers will inform the team managers no later than lunch time the day prior to the event. No alternative date will be arranged.
Year Group: Year 3 & Year 4 (Combined), 7 – 9 year olds - a local call who is chosen
Gender: Mixed
Team / Squad size: 32 pupils from each area
Clothing / equipment requirements: The competition will be held outdoors so pupils will need to bring appropriate clothes/footwear to suit the weather.
Refreshments: Lunch and refreshments will NOT be provided during the competition. Please ensure your pupils bring some lunch and liquid refreshments with them.
Transport arrangements: Qualifying teams selected to compete at this competition will be asked to make their own transport arrangements to and from the venue and will be expected to cover any associated costs.
Welfare: All competing teams will receive a copy of the event welfare plan prior to the event. The plan will outline clear lines of communication for any welfare issues and provide clarification of roles, responsibilities and procedures that should be followed should an incident or accident occur.
Event Format: Each district will split into 4 squads of 8 (A, B, C & D) Each squad will rotate around 4 activities in the morning and 4 activities in the afternoon

- Crazy catch challenges
- Jump for height
- Cross the river
- End ball
- Fitness challenges – Gold, Silver or Bronze
- Catch, Pass and Tag

Scoring: At each activity a district will be selected by the young leaders who deem to show the best school games value

Think Inclusively: where possible events will be adapted using different equipemtn, distances, rules ets. In the situation an activity is not suitable for a particular child an alternative activity will be offered
Pathways: Multi skills events are about building the confidence of the young people involved and hopefully return to school enthused to continue their physical development in physical education lessons, after school clubs. Once they start to show interest in a particular sport then should be signposted to community sport clubs or community activity providers.
