Get your workplace ping-ponging

Table tennis is a great sport for the workplace, in fact, it's one of only a handful that can actually be done in the workplace. Exercising as part of your daily routine doesn't come easier; you can't forget your kit because Table Tennis can be played in your work gear (just kick off those heels!) and you don't need a lot of equipment either, just a net, a bit of desk or table space, a couple of bats and a ball.

Why get involved?

Benefits can include improved staff morale, increased contact and communications between teams that wouldn't normally work together, and of course higher levels of physical activity. It's attractive to potential employees to see social interaction encouraged, Keely notes, as in companies such as Google, Innocent Drinks, Leicestershire Police and The Royal Mail. Table Tennis England are just about to launch their new Table Tennis at work programme and are looking for companies to engage with, so there is no better time than the present to get involved!

How to get started

If you've never played table tennis before, and there are no secret experts in your office, don't worry, it's one of the easiest games to pick up. Make up the rules as you go along if you like! If you want to get serious, the Table Tennis England Workplace Pack includes rules and game ideas, plus access to some basic tip videos. Table Tennis England have a workplace pack which is bespoke to meet your company's needs and can include anything from a simple net to put over your worktop, to a full size state-of-the-art table tennis table and balls. Packs are also available via Instant Ping Pong

The BHF Health at Work pages include posters you can use to launch your tournament, as well as a launch event guide and links to other organisations who can support you in getting ready to serve up table tennis to your team!
Check out the 'Making the case' section on BHF Health at Work for information about how to make the case for table tennis and to start developing your workplace activity programme.
