Cumbria Youth Alliance
The project offered physical activity sessions along with food to young people from low socio-economic backgrounds to encourage physical activity on the back of the initial lockdown. The programme worked really well in that it took activity to the young people when they needed it most. Working with youth providers across the localities who, as with so many were struggling financially, staff were furloughed. Therefore working with CYA allowed some provision to continue but at little to no cost for the youth provider. The activities were young person led, they chose what they wanted to do, thus getting their sustained involvement for the duration of the project. Quite noticeable throughout the project was the immediate upturn in confidence with the young people involved, potentially linked to the activities being on the back of a lockdown and the fact that the young people were again able to engage in positive physical activity.
