Lakeland Rowing Club is delighted to announce a new alliance with Newton Rigg College Rowing Club whose student rowers will now be based at Lakeland RC's North Lakes base at Derwent Water Marina at Portinscale on Derwentwater from April 2015.
Chris Pratt from Lakeland RC commented, “We are really pleased that Newton Rigg College rowers have agreed to join us at our base at Derwent Water Marina, Portinscale, Keswick. One of the club’s key goals is to build successful competitive student and junior rowing sections at so this new agreement with Newton Rigg College is a very significant development for us. It means that both clubs will benefit by sharing boats, equipment and also our trained British Rowing coaches. It will be great to have students both training and competing on Derwentwater and we also hope this will be the first stage of bringing in new younger members through our 'Learn to Row' courses and then progressing to competitive rowing. We’d also like to say a big thank you Dave Williamson at Derwent Water Marina for supporting both Clubs and being so accommodating”
Adam Savage, Student Services Manager at Newton Rigg College, commented “We are very keen to develop our student rowing at Newton Rigg College and we having been looking for a new base to row. Derwentwater is such a stunning location and our student rowers have been out on the water a couple of times thanks to Lakeland RC. They loved the experience of rowing here and so I hope we can not only build a competitive crew for student races and regattas later in the year but also recruit more new rowers to the Club. Both Derwent Water Marina and Lakeland Rowing Club have made us very welcome and we will be working with them to develop the club. We plan to take part in the Lakeland Rowing Sprint Races (part of the Derwentwater Regatta) on July 11th.
