We are delighted to learn that Cumbria School Games has been shortlisted for 'Sporting Achivement' at the Golden Apple awards, the annual celebration honouring the best in education and training across Cumbria.
We are up against our School Games Champions for Gymnastics, Lindal & Marton school, who this year made Cumbrian gymnastic history as they claimed gold in all three small school categories in Spring this year. The boys and girls from the school took top spot at Key Step One, Two and Three levels as hundreds of gymnasts battled it out for honours. It was the first time a single school had taken all three crowns at the Cumbria finals.
The third finalist is Cumbrian SPAA Foundation (SPAAF) who have had a turbulent year, but have now been rescued after leisure provider GLL stepped in to save staff from redundancy after the SPAA Board had reluctantly agreed to cease trading due to central funding and grants being cut.
Winners will be revealed at a glittering gala dinner at Carlisle Racecourse.
More than 200 guests will be invited to the event on October 7.
There are 19 categories in this year’s Golden Apples to reflect and recognise excellence and achievement in a range of formal and informal learning settings.
The awards are sponsored by the University of Cumbria and personal development and career guidance organisation Inspira.
