May 24, 2016

A Cumbria College Female Festival took place on Wednesday at Newton Rigg College. Over 100 female students from all the Cumbrian colleges attended the day.

The day included Heath Checks / Badminton/ Clubbercise/ Table Tennis/  Rock Climbing / Health checks  / Climbing Wall & Hair/beauty treatments.

Alyson Hastie from AoC Sport said  'I'm really pleased that the partnership working between ourselves, the Cumbrian colleges and Active Cumbria has been so successful and has allowed us to deliver amazing opportunities for students in the area. The female festival is a great example of this, over 100 females from 5 colleges in the area have had the chance to participate in some innovative activities such as clubbacise, PiYo and rock climbing to try and get them more physically active.'

Russell Maddams, Active Cumbria Development Officer and Higher Education Further Education Lead for Cumbria said “ I am really pleased to see the first Female festival of its kind for College students happening at Newton Rigg College this week. It is a credit to the new College partnership in Cumbria called the HE/FE forum and the support Active Cumbria have put in to creating a new North West post which covers Cumbria and the North West that this festival has come to fruition and we are proud to be part of the partnership.”

We managed to speak to some of the attendees to find out how they enjoyes the day;
