Cumbria School Games Adult Volunteer Leaders and Coaches Update

April 23, 2015

Children and Families Minister Edward Timpson announced at the CSP Network Convention last month that the volunteer leaders and coaches grant for school games will be extended for a fourth year. The funding aims to support level one and two of the School Games, by providing funding for School Games Organiser areas to recruit and train adult volunteers to support the delivery of their competitions.

The Children and Families Minister Edward Timpson said:

'I’m delighted to launch an extension of our successful volunteer programme - so even more young people can take part."

Nicola Maclean (Development Officer) from Active Cumbria said this Cumbria received £8,000 to help us train and deploy 30 adult volunteers to support the school games programme in Cumbria which so far we’ve used across the County to recruit, train and deploy over 107 adult volunteers of which over 95% are aged between 16 and 25.

We are delighted at the news that the funding will be extended for a further year as the School Games Organisers across Cumbria have excelled targets this year and are keen to continue to offer adult volunteers training and qualifications along with high quality volunteering opportunities which we hope will inspire them to continue to volunteer once they leave education.

We have some great local examples of how some of the volunteers are being trained and deployed to support our local school games programme so far this year.
