 Sabrina's Success Stories

The reason for recruiting a Volunteer Development Officer in Copeland's Sport and Culture Department was to grow and sustain sports volunteers within schools and the community with a focus on 14-24years, but to also work with residents outside this age range, and other volunteers and voluntary organizations non sports.

The project allows new volunteers to be identified; these volunteers are then introduced to volunteering through a number of events and initiatives. In addition to this they are mentored through events, workshops and one to one contact with the sports volunteer development officer.

The project also supports and develops existing volunteers in school, club and community.

This project works with young people in education, young people Not in Education Employment or Training (NEET), worklessness people and those involved within in local clubs and community organisations.

The project fills an identified gap. Without the project volunteers in Copeland would have to rely on their schools, clubs or organisations to direct them to correct resources. This means volunteers would receive fragmented support and miss the opportunity to develop their skills in Copeland.

Sabrina Shaw was recruited to this position and has had a very busy and successful year:
