Competitive Olympic Weightlifting involves both men and women, lifting a weighted barbell over their heads under control. Contenders are separated into weight categories and are judged on the amount of weight they lift using the two Olympic Weightlifting techniques, the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk.
Modern weightlifting can be traced back thousands of years and stands alongside running, jumping and throwing as one of the earliest displays of sporting prowess.
