#thisgirlgolfs. A lot.
This summer, Bentham Golf Club have got fully behind the England Golf campaign, #thisgirlgolfs, to get more women and girls enjoying their beloved sport.
The campaign proves that golf is a sport that can be enjoyed anywhere, by anyone; irrelevant of gender, background or age. More importantly, the 'Get into Golf' programme, which runs alongside the #thisgirlfgolfs campaign, offers a sustainable and cost effective way to try the sport out.
The aim is to banish the old stereotypes that golf is only for gentlemen or the upper class. It is in fact a sport that is accessible to all and can be played within all budgets. Yes, you still get exclusive clubs and areas where it perhaps stretches the purse strings a little bit. But, there will always be a club ready to welcome you with open arms so it's worth a search.
Bentham Golf Club, have introduced over 35 new people to the sport thanks to both the aforementioned funded campaigns. (Of those 35 rookie goflers, 23 of them were women and girls!) This has resulted in almost 85% of those becoming regular golfers and members. For a small club like ours, this is a great return on our investment of time into the programme.
The support received from Active Cumbria and county Golf Development Officer, Becky Underwood, has been critical in the success of Get into Golf and #thisgirlgolfs at Bentham Golf Club.
Get into Golf and #thisgirlgolfs are nationwide campaigns. If golf is a port you have through about trying then there isn’t a better time to do so. Visit getintogolf.org for more information or contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org
