It is one of the two major codes of rugby football, the other being rugby union.Players on field are divided into forwards and backs. Each position has a designated number, 1 to 13. Numbers 14 to 17 are given to players starting on the bench, who will come into the game as substitutes for other players who are injured, in need of a rest, or less suited to the coach's strategy for that particular phase of the game.
Rugby league is played in more than 30 countries, though it is most commonly played in the United Kingdom (predominantly northern England) Australia and New Zealand.
Barrow Raiders here in Cumbria are one of Rugby Leagues most historic professional clubs.
Barrow and the South Lakes area has a strong tradition of playing amateur rugby. In Askam and Dalton they have two of the oldest clubs in the country.
Are you a Rugby League Fan? Ever thought about taking up a new challenge? Why not become a Rugby League Match Official? Whether you are a player, ex player, coach, parent or spectator, this course offers an exciting opportunity to become a Match Official or to simply learn more about the Laws of the Game. The course looks at the interpretations of the laws through practical exercises and interactive classroom work and who knows where it could lead? With application and hard work you could officiate in Super League!
For more information contact Peter Wharton 07764 627103.
Are you up for a challenge? Fancy a nail-biting, seat-gripping, full contact wheelchair sport? Well...you've come to the right place. Wheelchair rugby's not nicknamed 'murderball' for nothing you know!
It's open to men and women - whatever your age. If you have upper and lower limb disabilities and a thirst for action, then maybe it's about time you gave wheelchair rugby a shot.

Are you, or do you know of anyone that is interested in playing Touch Rugby?
Starting in April the RFL will be running a 10 week 'Play touch Rugby League' competition, and we are looking for interest of a team of teachers from the Barrow and South lakes area to enter a team into the competition.
The event will be run on a Wednesday evening throughout April, May and June at a Rugby League venue in Barrow. There will be one or two fixtures to be played by each team per week and the results will be ran on a league basis. The team will be open to any individual over the age of 16 and it will be a mixed gender team.
Touch Rugby is a better way to get fit and active, burn calories, build muscle tone and have fun with your friends without having to be a member of a gym.
Touch Rugby League is a fast, skilful and action packed team sport played in a fun and social atmosphere, without any of the tackling you see in a traditional game of Rugby League.
I will be organising some taster sessions with teachers that are interested, to get everyone up to scratch with rules etc.
If you are interested please contact Matt Jefferson on 07775022799.
