Satellite Sports Clubs are extensions of community sports clubs, that specifically targeted inactive young people aged 14 to 19 from the three underepresnted groups in sport/physical activity (women/girls, people with disabilities and low social economic). With the idea of the satellite sport club programme being to make it easier for young people to remain active, or indeed to start playing sport for the first time in a local setting were they hang out and in a format shped by the young people through consultation. Satellite clubs provide a stepping stone for young people to access local community sport helping to make participating in sport a lifelong habit.
Over the next two years Active Cumbria will be working with Secondary Schools, Colleges, well established high quality local sports clubs, youth providers/organistions and third sector organistaions to establish a network of addtional sustainable satellite clubs across Cumbria to engage inactive young people aged 14 to 19 from the three underepresented groups listed a above in sport/physical activity.
