Satellite Sports Clubs are extensions of community sports clubs, local delivery organisations that specifically targeted inactive young people aged 11 to 25. The idea of the satellite sports clubs is to make it easier for young people to remain active, or indeed to start playing sport for the first time. They provide a stepping stone for young people to access local community clubs helping to make participating in sport a lifelong habit.
Active Cumbria will be working with National Governing Bodies (NGBs) of Sport, Secondary Schools, Colleges and well established high quality local sports clubs, youth providers and the third sector over the next two years to sustain its existing network of satellite sports clubs and create new clubs that engage hard to reach inactive young people from less represented groups in physical activity and will support groups/organisations to apply for National Lottery Funding to help them set up a satellite club.
