South West started strongly, competing well around the park, getting to the breakdown well and winning turnover ball. They created overlaps and after 10 minutes went over for a try out wide which they couldn't convert. Play restarted with the South West continuing to pressurise, quickly forcing the North East to concede a penalty in front of the posts which they easily kicked. The North East started to assert domination through the scrum which they used to set up some good phases of play. Cougars Captain Lucy Meadley took a short pass from a ruck and went over to score her first try in the corner. The half time score was 8:5 to the South West. The North East continued to dominate in the second half, starting to ship the ball quickly down the back line. South West made the error of kicking the ball to the North East, it was collected by Jen Edwards of the North East who sped 60 m, drawing the full back, then stepping back in to score the North East's second try. The North East's props scored two further tries, and the Cougar's Lisa Ritchie made a conversion to take their tally to 22. In the last couple of minutes the South West forced another penalty, they kicked deep into the North East's territory and from the lineout shipped the ball quickly down the back line to score and scored out wide. They finished it off with the conversion. The North East team were the better drilled, and with the combination of power in the forwards and speed out wide deserved the title - national regional winners.
