Kent Valley First to Achieve Chartered Standard

4th February 2010

Kent Valley Junior Football League achieves Charter Standard award. The Westmorland County Football Association are delighted to announce that the Kent Valley Junior Football League have achieved The FA Charter Standard League Status. The league is the first in the County to achieve this prestigious kite mark in the first season of the scheme. Awarded in 2010 following the formation of a Charter Standard League Committee who created a development plan for the league, the Charter Standard Status recognises the outstanding contribution to youth football in Westmorland that the Kent Valley Junior Football League provides. The award also recognises that the league and its member clubs are committed to providing a high quality, safe and enjoyable football experience that is measured against a standard set of criteria.

The award was presented to representatives of the league following the consultation event which presented the development plan to members of the league.

The league currently has 53 teams playing 11-a-side football, in 5 divisions from Under 11 to Under 16 inclusive. The league also has 48 teams playing in 4 divisions in the mini-soccer age groups from Under 7 to Under 10 inclusive.

Tony Jackson, Kent Valley Junior Football League Secretary said “On behalf of the Kent Valley Junior Football League, I am absolutely delighted that we have become the first league in Westmorland to have achieved Charter Standard League status. I believe that achieving this award can only benefit youth football in Westmorland”.

“I would also like to thank the Westmorland County FA for their help and assistance over the last few months which has helped us to achieve the award”.

Adam Panter, Westmorland County FA Football Development Officer, added: “On behalf of the Westmorland County FA, I would like to congratulate everyone involved with the Kent Valley Junior Football League. The Charter Standard League Status recognises the hard work that the league volunteers put in each and every season to ensure that any young person who wishes to play football in Westmorland has the opportunity to do so. Through the creation of a development plan and with on-going support from the County FA staff, the league now has a strategic plan that will enable continued growth and success into the 2010/11 season and beyond”.

“The Kent Valley Junior Football League has worked closely with the Westmorland County FA when creating the development plan to ensure that the targets set within, are challenging but achievable and the creation of a coach and officials education week at the start of each new season will ensure that the high-standards the league sets, continue to be maintained. The Kent Valley Junior Football League is an excellent example of what grassroots football is all about, and is thoroughly deserving of the Charter Standard League award”.

Initiatives set up by the league include Certificate in Coaching Football Level 1, in-service training events, assistant referees workshops, Welfare Officers Committee, delivering on Respect initiatives and introducing the 9v9 football format to continue players development from mini-soccer to 11v11.
