There is a growing body of evidence that support the mental health benefits of physical activity.  Studies have shown that it improves the quality of life for people with mental health problems, prevents the onset of mental health problems and improves the mental wellbeing of the general public.  Exercise has also been shown to reduce anxiety, enhance mood and has a positive effect on self-esteem, particularly in terms of physical self-perception.

In Cumbria 8000 people including members of the public, service users, carers and staff are members of the County's mental health trust, Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.  Members receive information from the Trust on general wellbeing and about the development of mental health services locally and can even get involved in how the Trust is operated.  Currently, only 37% of our members are male and we would like to reach out to more men in the County giving them the opportunity to receive information on general wellbeing and the services we have available.
