The Carlisle and North Cumbria School Sport Partnership is based at the Richard Rose Central Academy. The sporting vision for the partnership is to develop and open up sporting opportunities for everyone in school no matter how old, how talented or experienced. The challenge is enormous given the thousands  of pupils in the sixty plus schools but real progress is being made and the response is amazing and uplifting.

In the recent weeks, competitions have been held for every primary school in gymnastics, football, and netball and cross-country. Hundreds of pupils have taken part under the enthusiastic guidance of the teachers who give up so much time to support the activities. How can we forget the hundreds of people who came to watch the football and netball? The nerve-jangling finale with a golden goal winner after nearly eight hours of play. The adult supporters were drained emotionally and the players were elated but exhausted. Well done to one and all. In many of the sports, our winners have pride of place representing us at Cumbrian County events.

But do not forget how this all happens. As part of the national strategy for school sport, our partnership employs a competition manager, Joanna McLean. She works tirelessly to put a strategic programme together that is planned over the whole year. Schools, pupils and families all look forward to their part in that programme. The vision is becoming a reality and we hope that our collective efforts continue to enthuse the next generation
