2012 Gamesmakers

The role of volunteers has been integral throughout Olympic history. London pioneered the use of volunteers in the 1948 Games which saw the first official use of unpaid members of the public to help with the Games.

The open Gamesmaker application process has now closed but there will be plenty of other opportunities to get involved such as the Mayor of London's Ambassador Programme or the Pre Games Trailblazers.  As the Games draw closer there will also be local opportunities across the North West such as Training Camps or meet and greet at points of entry.

For information on volunteering roles and programmes around the Games to get involved in please visit the Volunteer Section of the London 2012 Website.

The Young Games Maker Programme has now launched

London 2012 have announced more than 2,000 opportunities for 16-18 year olds to volunteer at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

They're looking for recognised organisations such as Get Set Network schools and colleges, youth or sports clubs, and community and volunteering groups to put forward over 250 teams of young volunteers to help fulfil vital roles and help make the Games happen.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young people to get involved in the greatest show on earth - while learning new skills, gaining experience and making new friends.

Young Games Makers will be needed in the Technology department and across a number of sports, from Aquatics and Athletics to Wheelchair Tennis and Weightlifting.

Applications open 22 September 2011, but you can find out about the roles and recruitment process now on the London 2012 website.
