Youth Disability Programme Unveiled

November 17, 2014

Cumberland FA are pleased to announce this year’s Youth Disability Schools Football Programme.

The programme supports local teenagers aged 11-18 with disabilities and additional needs to play football in a safe, fun and friendly environment. The programme engaged over 10 schools across Cumbria, and welcomed over 110 players last year.
Hosting festivals, events and organising friendly games between teams has seen more and more youngsters with a disability take up the sport. This year we aim to support players accessing more regular playing opportunities outside of schools, in disability specific clubs, FA Mash up Centres, FA Mars Just Play Centres and local Charter Standard Clubs.
Jess Lawson, Football Development Officer said: ‘This is the fifth year that the project has ran and is becoming increasingly popular with players of all ages and abilities. We are working closely with third sector organisations and disability specific groups to set up and deliver sustainable disability specific activity; allowing players the opportunity to continue playing outside of school.'
