What are you doing for BBC Children in Need?

November 14, 2016

Pony Club and Young Equestrians at Witherslack Hall Equestrian Centre have successfully raised £1350 for BBC Children in Need, after doing their Sponsored Ride in spots to support the 2016 Appeal. The money raised will go on to help transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

20 Pony Club and Young Equestrian members from the Centre took part in a sponsored ride in which they dressed as spotty as they could! The sponsored ride took place on the 6th November 2016 from Witherslack Hall Equestrian Centre.

Witherslack Hall Equestrian hosts a variety of leaning opportunities and experiences to young people locally. Pony Club is for younger children or the Young Equestrians for those ready to move on a level. Both groups combine riding with stable and yard management including all aspects of Horse care and welfare.

Deana also believes in supporting younger members of her own community and works closely with local residential Schools for children and young adults who have struggled to engage in mainstream education. The sessions not only incorporate all aspects of Riding and Horse Care, they also help to develop life skills such as Confidence, Leadership, Emotional Self Management and Self Care. All participants on the programme are awarded with Ofqual regulated and nationally recognised certification. Many young people are experiencing success and positive learning experiences with the horses that can then be transferred from the yard classroom to the school classroom.

If there are emotional or behavioural difficulties inhibiting learning for a participant then 1 on 1 Equine Facilitated Learning sessions have proven very successful at overcoming and assisting progression through the Educational Programmes.

Deana Tarr Proprietor said: “We’re overwhelmed with the response we had to doing our Sponsored Ride as a fundraiser and would like to say a huge thank you to all those who took part! It was great fun supporting BBC Children in Need and to know that we’ve raised £1350 is a fantastic feeling. ”

BBC Children in Need works throughout the year to ensure that every child in the UK has a safe, happy and secure childhood, and the chance to reach their full potential. It relies on the energy and commitment of thousands of fundraisers and supporters across the UK, who donate their time and money to put on events in support of the Appeal. Whether doing your baking thing, your fancy-dress party thing or your challenge thing, every penny raised will help support projects across the UK.
