Volunteers Week is a National celebration of volunteers that takes place annually between 1st - 7th June. It gives everybody the opportunity to pause and say 'thank-you, well done' to the countless number of volunteers who give their time to help others.
In sport, volunteers are the lifeblood of our community. In England there are nearly 6 million sport volunteers, 26% of all volunteers cite sport as their main area of interest and 1.9 million people give up an hour a week to volunteer in sport.
There are lots of activities been planned across Cumbria, celebration events have been organised by Cumbria CVS. Sabrina Shaw the Volunteer Development Officer for Copeland Borough Council has a range of activities as well as the whole Health and Wellbeing Team attempting to paint the boundary wall at Haverigg Cricket Club in a record breaking time.
To celebrate Volunteers Week and to ensure all Cumbrian volunteers are up to date with all events volunteering related, Active Cumbria is launching a sport volunteering twitter feed @buactivecumbria. If you have something you would like tweeting to this audience e-mail Becky Underwood, or follow us if you want to know what's going on.
As well tweeting we can also promote your opportunities on the Active Cumbria website, currently the vacancies on there range from Great North Swim Marshals to the all new London 2012 Jobs site.
