Schools are out for Summer and a wealth of different activities are taking place across Eden District for young people as part of Eden District Council and North County Leisure’s Summer Holiday Activity Programme. From Monday 21 July until Friday 29 August a plethora of events and activities are taking place for young people aged from 5-14. To celebrate the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow NCL are starting the activities with the NCL Commonwealth Games from Wednesday 23 July to Friday 1 August at Penrith Leisure Centre.
Eden District Council’s Summer Holiday Sports Activity Co-ordinator, Courtney Savage said: “An Eden Commonwealth Games is a great way to start the Summer Holiday Activity Programme we have loads of sports for children to try from netball, hockey, rhythm gymnastics, bowls and much more. We even have fancy dress competition on Friday 1 August where you can come dressed to represent a Commonwealth country.
“We have activities taking place right across the District from Alston Moor to Appleby for all ages and abilities, with discounts available for beActive card holders. We have such a broad range of activities planned there are plenty of ways for young people to burn off their summer energy from boxercise for kids to a ‘fun day’ at Penrith Golf Club.”
Penrith and Eden Museum are also offering summer activities for young people this with World War 1 (WW1) themed creative workshops for children aged 8 upwards. The sessions are being held in July and August and include exploring the Museum’s WW1 collection, having a go at knitting a secret message or try mega knitting with giant needles!
