We are delighted to announce that British athletics star Eilish McColgan is set to provide inspiration to youngsters at the Cumbria School Games in March.
The School Games is an exciting, fully inclusive competition for school children in Cumbria.
They are designed to motivate, enthusing and inspiring young people across the county to take part in more competitive school sport.
Eilish is one of Britain’s top middle distance elites and has ruled the women’s steeplechase since seriously focusing on the event. Her senior Great Britain debut came at the 2011 European Team Championship, where she competed in the 3000m steeplechase and in 2012 she earned selection for the London Olympics. The following season saw Eilish compete at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, where she had a 10th place and PB finish in the women’s steeplechase.
Eilish will be visiting the Cumbria School Games on 23rd March 2016 in her capacity as one of Sport England’s Sporting Champions and is excited about interacting with the young people at the event.
“Having competed at the Olympics and World Championships, I feel it is really important for me to give something back to sport because it has given me so much. That is why I love being a Sport England Sporting Champion and working with young people.
“I am looking forward to doing just that at the upcoming Cumbria School Games. I am excited to meet all the young participants and volunteers in attendance and my aim is to raise their aspirations of what they can achieve. I know that it will be a fantastic event so I cannot wait for the action to get underway in Penrith.”
