8th December 2011

Following an article in the Times last week talking about headlines in Sport Englands new strategy Jennie Price, Chief Executive of Sport England has been telling partners more about the details.

The strategy will not be announced until the New Year but Sport England wanted to underline that they have been working closely with Ministers and that they have taken account of the detailed and very useful feedback they have received from partners through the strategy consultation over the summer.

As well as seeing full details of the strategy in the New Year, information will also be given about some significant new areas of work both nationally and locally.  Sport England are still finalising plans but they will include partnerships with Local Authorities and the next round of NGB investment reaching down to local communities.  Sport England are also thinking about how best to support schools to either open up or keep open their sports facilities for use by their local communities.

While there will be an increased focus on youth this will not be exclusive.  There will be balance both in terms of Sport England funding and strategy between young people and creating a sporting habit for life.
