Sport England have recently released a report exploring the trends affecting sporting habits, and how the sports sector is both driving and responding to them.
The report called 'Who plays sport?' includes case studies (including parkrun) showing how different organisations have successfully responded to different gaps, trends and opportunities across the world of sport.

During the year to April 2013, 15.3 million people in England played sport at least once a week. That’s an increase of more than 1.4 million over 2005/6 – the first year of the survey.
